Where it started...

Archi Thorne- Owner

Archi Thornes business began during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bridgeport, West Virginia, where a small group of female business owners joined in a market center and sold their products in a shared space. Now living in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Archie hopes to expand her business and work independently doing what she loves most.

Welcome friends!

My name is Ms. Archi Thorne, owner and seamstress of “The Dressmaker LLC”.

I was a mechanic, tow truck driver, and welder for 15+ yrs and like so many, during the pandemic in 2020 reevaluated my life and changed direction. I opened a humble little dress shop in West Virginia

and despite what my friends and family said about it not being a good time to open a small business......

I did, and it was a success! After a year I closed down to reopen on Hilton Head Island and will be open for business November 2023.

I believe it is important to work, yes, but to do what you love and in this way allow money to be a byproduct of that love rather than have making money be the main focus which distortes the intention. I feel responsible to set a good example.

Throughout history in times of war or chaos or disaster there is nothing more soothing or wonderful than a beautiful woman in a beautiful dress. Like a flower in full bloom in the middle of the desert.

How it works...

Sovereign Gypsy offers two types of services. While clothes are crafted often and can be bought without consultations or preparation, Archie Thornes speciality is custom outfits.

To begin, there is a $50 fitting charge in order for proper measurements to be recorded. The client has the opportunity to specify their preferations in a variety of categories such as color schemes, style preference, and fabric types. After that, a portfolio page is created with both the measurements and the guidelines. A day is set aside to gather fabric, source and/or create a pattern, and cutting out sections. And lastly as Archie puts it, "Finally the fun part, sewing it all together!"
